Recommended Footwear
Footwear recommendations from Your Podiatry.
We all have our favourite shoe styles. Whether it be an Aussie thong or your most comfortable wedge, at some stage we all need to make sensible choices when it comes sore feet.
Choosing an everyday shoe, one that is worn most of the day or through your working week is extremely important as this is when your feet are going to let you know if they are not happy. Whether it is a work, school or sports shoe there are some common podiatrist recommendations to go by.
Ensure you have enough length and width. You should be able to wiggle your toes with minimal pressure from either side of the shoe. Avoid synthetic materials as these promote environments for fungal infections and foot odour.
For females who like some height in the heel for fashion reasons try to choose a shoe with a maximum height of 2cm.
Remember a lace up or velcro upper provides more support than a slip on.
Different footwear is needed for specific activities.
Protective Boot = work place
Walking Shoe = walking
Running Shoe = running
Athletic Shoe = sports
It is always important to have your everyday work and atheltic shoe fitted correctly. If you are still unsure after making your purchase, seek advice from your podiatrist.
